About the Client
Before You Buy is an Australian property due-diligence platform. Buyers, sellers and agents use it to order independent property reports and services, such as building and pest inspections, strata reports and contract reviews, from a panel of vetted, insured professionals. A buyer who orders a new report gets money back when other buyers purchase the same one.
Brothers Rhys and Jordan Rogers founded the business in 2015 as Before You Bid. It now operates in six Australian states and territories.
The Challenge
Before You Buy's first website and platform was an MVP, built offshore. As the business grew, its founders needed a scalable website and architecture to run it on. In their words, with hundreds of suppliers and thousands of customers, "we needed a highly robust structure".
The platform has a lot to hold together. Buyers find a property and order or buy its reports. Sellers order reports before they list. Agents see which buyers are interested. Inspectors take on jobs and deliver their reports. And the Before You Buy team runs all of it.
The Solution
Rocket Lab designed and built the whole Before You Buy platform from scratch, in five parts: the public website, the customer portal, the admin, BYB Assist for agents and the BYB Inspector app for iOS and Android.
Discovery: 2 months

- The five parts of the new platform, designed and built to replace the MVP. React and Next.js on a serverless architecture on AWS, with a GraphQL API and Stripe, Twilio and Xero integrations.

The website
The public website Rocket Lab built ran at beforeyoubuy.com.au until it was redesigned in 2026. As archived in March 2026, it was where buyers and sellers started:
- Search by service and address found the reports available on a property.
- Existing reports cost less, with cash back if they were bought again.
- New reports could be ordered when none existed, with checkout on the site.
- A page for each service, from building and pest inspections to strata reports and contract reviews.
The customer portal
Where customers sign in to the platform. Buyers and sellers order reports and download them. Agents order through an account linked to their agency, and see on their dashboard which buyers have downloaded a report.
The admin
The back office the Before You Buy team uses to run the platform. It is private, so this page does not show it.
BYB Assist, for agents
BYB Assist is the agents' side of the platform: a tool that carries an open for inspection into the agency's CRM, free for agents. Once it is connected to the CRM, it does the follow-up an agent rarely has time for:
- Follows up every attendee. After the inspection, attendees get a questionnaire with the questions the agent wants answered, in white-labelled messages under the agency's name.
- Sends the sales contract on request, and tells the agent when a copy is requested or a report is bought.
- Keeps the CRM current. Attendee contact details update in the CRM automatically. It works with CRMs including Agentbox, Rex and VaultRE.
- Turns answers into leads. Insights on each attendee's interest for the follow-up call, and property appraisal and finance leads.
It closes the loop with the rest of the platform: the reports buyers order on Before You Buy and the answers attendees give in BYB Assist both reach the agency's CRM.
BYB Inspector, for iOS and Android
The app inspectors on the Before You Buy panel use to run their jobs:
- Accept or reject jobs offered through the platform.
- Schedule the inspection and keep each job's status up to date.
- Upload the report from the app.
- Set their availability, from the postcodes they service to the days they are on leave.
The Outcome
Before You Buy now describes itself as Australia's largest property due-diligence platform. By its own count, it has helped 341K buyers, and 11,000+ agencies and 27,000+ agents use it (October 2026). Its reports appear on realestate.com.au, Domain, property.com.au and PropertyMate listings, and buyers who order a report flow as leads into agency CRMs, including Reapit, Rex and MRI's VaultRE, Box+Dice and Eagle. The BYB Inspector app, on the App Store since November 2020, had its latest releases on both stores in October 2026.
